World Water Week Breaking News

Article 24 of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child states that every child has the right to the best possible health. This includes access to clean water. World Water Day is an annual UN observance day that highlights the importance of freshwater.

This resource looks at a press release about water shortages in Somalia. We have provided two versions of the article to match different reading abilities, and a vocabulary support page for bilingual or ESOL learners. After reading the article, children sort statements into different types of data, and we provide discussion points to look at water use and connect to water restrictions in New Zealand.
